The Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) version 10 English (2021) is a design tool produced by the Passivhaus Institut Germany for use by building architects and designers. It works on both Mac and PC.
PHPP incorporates the energy specifications for quality-approved Passivhaus buildings from the institute in an online flip book manual and application. PHPP contains a series of tools for :
Calculating energy balances
Designing comfortable ventilation
Calculating the heat load
Summer comfort calculations
Other useful tools for reliable design of Passivhaus dwellings
NEW easyPH spreadsheets are now included with PHPP10 – keep track of your project easily with checklists, hide non-relevant sections and use one way scrolls.
The main benefits of PHPP are :
PHPP is only provided as single-user license, including a detailed manual. With the license the PHPP user obtains a registration code which is used to register the PHPP license. Based on this registration, the user will receive updates of the calculation tool, or upgrade discounts for new versions of PHPP or designPH.
PHPP and designPH are subject to copyright and a resellers’ agreement. If the software is being used by more than one person then additional copies should be purchased for each person using it.
A reduced rate is available to existing purchasers of Version9. If you wish to take advantage of this reduced price select the upgrade product from the shop.
Products in the AECB shop are sold according to the terms and conditions listed here.
The Passive House Planning Package PHPP 10 contains a new separate spreadsheet, the Room Data tool. Optional calculations can be expanded using the “+” at the top of the column, and these will be especially useful in larger buildings. You can find your TFA (usable floor space) by adding up itemised figures for every room. Use it to also work out the volume of the building for your air test. There are further sheets for lighting, commissioning, summer ventilation etc. It identifies totals which can easily be copied into your PHPP.
Within the Room data spreadsheet there is a “Record” sheet that allows you to summarise each change to the design and how it has affected the results of your PHPP. Typically one person will improve the design and this sheet is a great way to document for the design team the changes to meet the targets from the initial drawings. Others can then check that and update drawing sets and other documentation.
The easyPH (beta) is a new tool based on PHPP that simplifies the certification of single-family homes. easyPH is initially available as a test version, in English.
It may already be used for certification. Further details can be found in the instructions in the tool :
– PHPP_EN_V10.6_easyPH_Empty.xlsx / a ready-to-use easyPH PHPP file, with empty input cells for your own projects
– PHPP_EN_V10.6_easyPH_Example.xlsx / a filled easyPH PHPP file containing an example building
A case study showing how the PHPP tool works for the building and its occupants
